Well I finally gave up on the show a couple years back, and saw the finale for what it was...appealing to the female demographic with all the relationship stuff, while giving those who were attracted by the blood sport (i.e. most of us) the Newlin chick being vampire bait at the end.
When considering a show which went two seasons too long, you can't expect a slam-dunk finale. Same thing happened with Weeds.
The best season of this show was still the first one. I rewatched it about a month ago and I can't get over how good it was. Maybe they should have kept Rene around a little longer so he could kill more people and keep the mystery alive.
I don't know why so much time was spent on Bridget when she just showed up. It's not like we cared about her. And that whole Tara the ghost who buried a gun when she was a kid thing was just a stupid minor story to get Tara in the season. I like Adina Porter (mother) but they didn't know what to do with her after they killed off Tara. I get that they wanted to bring back as many characters as they could in the final season but some appearances meant unworthy plot lines that took up too much time in a 10 episode season.
Was it absolutely essential to pair off everyone? Can't you be single and happy?
I have been disappointed in this show for so long I did not expect much from the finale. Good thing because it was a let down. I understood Bill letting Sookie go so she could have a normal life, be free, have kids. But why did he make her go through the traumatic staking assisted suicide? He should have just met the sun by himself and saved her that gross last memory of him becoming Bill goo.
Wish they would have given some time to LaFayette. That actor deserved more than Two minutes at the end.
