For being a "small island", Puerto Rico has a lot of things to do and see, from historical sites to beautiful beaches and mountains. Do you have a favorite one? I know it's hard to pick one, but let's give it a try!
Growing up in Puerto Rico, one of my favorite things to do was to go horseback riding, early in the morning to Hacienda Carabali. We were able to take the horses out to the beach and ride for a couple of hours. Then we went to El Yunque, the rain forest, and swim at La Mina waterfall. It was a pretty hike to get there and the water was so cold! It felt good. On the way back, we stopped at Luquillo's beach and ate at the "kioskos", for a wonderful fattening array of fried food and sea food, of course accompanied by a Medalla, our local beer.

Sounds like a wonderful day! Great idea for a thread, hopefully others will jump in and share. By the way, can anyone share any suggestions for the mountain/lake region - i.e. nice restaurants with a view, good places to rent a boat, sights to see in the area, nice hotels in the area, etc.

It's so hard to pick one place, but I'll mention my favorite "view," which brings back so many fond memories: the view of Guajataca from Carretera #2 in Quebradillas. I also love a place near there on #2 where we always eat the fried food (e.g., alcapurrias, piononos, rellenos) and enjoy a tropical drink (my favorite being passionfruit juice).
Are you talking about the view of the train tunnel? That is a beautiful view!! I know it's hard to pick a favorite thing, so post as many as you want. I hope I don't gross you out but I also love passionfruit juice and I just found in Puerto Rico that Tang makes a powder mix of passionfruit with splenda....Not too bad!

Purtex: I'm referring to the view of Guajataca Bay. It is absolutely beautiful! Other favorites are El Morro, las Cavernas de Camuy, Boqueron, downtown Ponce, el Yunque and Palomino Island.
I'm going to have to look for that Tang passionfruit mix next time I visit

I'm glad somebody mentioned La Parguera. It's amazing to see those microorganisms glowing in the dark. Did you get a chance to try sangria El Cono? Pretty strong stuf!!
