I left Guam in 1990 & when I was in Guam, there was only plenty of warning about a Tsunami, technology has improved since then.
The local newspaper & news will always report it....

Hi there...or as we say in Guam, Hafa Adai!
As a native og Guam I can surely tell you that you will love and always remember the great hospitality there. There's an even share of Guamanian locals (a.k.a. Chamorros), lots of Asians, and of course...Military. I currently reside in the mainland but every now and then I travel back home to get my island fix.
A definite place to visit would be the white-sanded beaches, of course, and the city of Tumon. There is lots of bars, restaurants, hotels, and people walking around in Tumon. TIP: make use of the trolley, it covers all of Tumon . Walk through the hotels too! they are really beautiful. And In the city of Agana you have to visit "Chamorro Village"...lots of yummies for your tummy, gifts, and souvenirs.
It's sad cause, most people have the wrong impression about the island, thinking everyone there still wears grass skirts, and women wear coconut-cup bras, and that the island is still back in the 1940's, you'll see it's nothing like that. Guam is very laid-back and Americanized. It's a paradise island.
sounds incredible I'm leaving the us-vi in about a month and can't wait to get there. I've studied it intensively over the last three months and Guam looks like the place to be. I'm a union master carpenter, I do structural frame (high rise construction) do you know if there will be work for me there? P.S. I like grass skirts!
Do have work lined up. Our construction is most all concrete, cause the typhoons and extreme climate. We really need good finishing carpenters. I bet you'll make money with that.
hey say i wanted to start my own establishment, like a little cantina/resturaunt, would that be sustainable, even lucrative with tourists flow or is that niche pretty much already dominated.
What are property costs like?
Are most goods needed to be imported?
How stringent are government regulations?
Yes, the hospitality on Guam is great. However, be aware of the extremely poor road conditions, awful customer service, and good luck trying to find a clean beach. We just moved from there in Dec. 07.
