Per FAQS:
Quote:
1. Can I still collect federal benefits under this latest federal legislation?
Eligibility dates have been extended to the end of 2012. If state benefits and EUC tier benefits are exhausted not later than December 22, 2012, you are eligible to move to the next EUC tier and/or Extended Benefits (EB).
However, all EUC/EB benefit payments end December 29, 2012.
Important Change: Previously, tier benefits once begun could be exhausted in their entirety. Under the new legislation, unless extended once again by Congress, both EUC and EB benefits end December 29, 2012, regardless of unexhausted balance.
Possibly, if you worked and have new earnings since you first filed for benefits to support a new claim.

Back to the federal government. If Congress doesn't extend the legislation in its present form, you no longer are entitled to that money. If Congress makes any changes to the new legislation - and it passes such before year-end or next year - you may or may not be able to collect that balance depending on how the legislation is written.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked and answered many times already but it's something that's puzzling me based on a couple of posts.
The hypothetical situation is that I qualified for UC a year ago. A few months later I took a temp position which lasted for a couple of months during which, of course, I didn't collect UC. When I became unemployed again, were my UC payments a continuation of the previous benefits or were they classified as a new application and put me back to an entitlement of 26 weeks? Thanks for clarifying!
so if congress extends benefits I can collect remaining benefits that is in my balance even through my year ends 12.23.12.
and can I collect my benefits for this week?

You will be eligible to move to the next tier even though your bye is 12/23. NY will automatically transition you to the next tier at your bye. This may take a few days.
You can collect for week ending 12/22 - AND - week ending 12/29. NY will send you a notice of this transition.
Meanwhile keep claiming as long as the system permits - even if legislation lapses and you are claiming into 2013. Very important to keep claims current in the system.

In the same boat as Mike - BYE date was 12/23 in NY. I was able to submit my weekly claim on 12/23. Not sure if I should try to recertify/file a new claim if the whitehouse approves an extension?

Yes, you need to recertify. You are entitled to one more week's benefits. In NY, you reapply for a new claim online at your bye. Do it now. NY reps don't like doing recerts over the phone, although you could try that, as well.
I erred in not telling NYCMike to file online - brain lapse. He should do that, too. I'll send him a DM.
