I received this letter today in the mail and it says:

You've been selected to be part of the CT DOL enhancement program. You've been scheduled to attend a 3 hour Enhanced Re-employment Services Orientation session. During this session, we will explain the program and help you determine which services will best meet your re-employment needs. Please bring any information regarding previous job search assistance programs you have completed or are attending. Based on your needs, you may also be scheduled for additional services.

What is this? Why am I getting this? Has anyone been to one of these sessions?

I was laid off in January from a job that lasted 8 months. Started my new claim in Feb. I'd like to be well prepared for this, so I'm trying to find out what goes on during these sessions. What kind of questions do they ask, what should I bring, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In WI, every newly unemployed person collecting benefits had to attend one of these - this was way back in 2009. Took half a day. Job counselors give talks on job hunting techniques, seminars available, other resources at the jobs centers, evaluate your resume and, apparently, in your case now want to see a record of job searches. It is way too early for CT to get anal about anything since you just lost your job. Bring your job search log and resume and take from there. No big deal.

If you are unemployed long enough to begin federal benefits - EUC - you may have to attend another one of these, where your job searches will be more closely scrutinized.

Just keep a good job search log and you will be fine for however long you are collecting benefits.

Bring my job search logs? I just have a spreadsheet of the dates, company I contacted, address, website, if they had any jobs available that I was interested in, if so sent my resume. I'll print and bring it with me, but should I only do the last two weeks or since I started my recent claim?

The letter only says: Please bring any information regarding previous job search assistance programs you have completed, or are currently attending.

My husband went to one in IL.

He brought his work search logs. Nobody asked to see them. The first 15 minutes of the session was explaining the "job seeking center" in the unemployment office (a couple of computers & fax), the online Job Link (state jobs that nobody gets hired for). The next 45 minutes was them explaining how to apply for the menu of government benefits available to unemployed people.

Was a total and complete waste. I wonder if the Feds know how not-seriously IL is taking the reemployment counseling requirement.

I went to one this week. It was very short and they asked for your completed forms and if you watched the video. I just moved to fed benefits so that was why I was required to go. I'm signing up for CTB where you get retrained and still get paid without having to look for work. This is in California.

Just came back from my session. After completing a few forms, the first 1.5 hour was explaining how to file a claim, online and by phone. The last 1.5 hour was explaining the services at the center and the resources they have to offer, job search techniques, and read through a handout. That was it.
