Here is the deal. I was laid off June 12 and I have been on CA EDD and than to the federal extension benefits. I am currently on Tier 3, receiving a reduced amount for one more month. My confusion is the the letter I received is saying that my beginning claim date is 6/9/13 - 6/7/14 and the max weekly amount is $450 and $11.700 which is much more than the few thousand I have left on the Tier 3. Does this mean that I will be eligible for another CA claim once my fed extension is done? I know this is my wishful thinking, I am very confused by this letter.

Any info advice would be greatly appreciated!

When did you get this letter? What quarters of earnings are used to support this new claim? Should be shown at the bottom of the letter.

Have you worked since you filed for benefits in June 2012?

If you have a whole new claim beginning June 2013 at a benefit equal to your first claim (before sequester), CA should now be paying you from that new claim, not Tier 3.

Or, it is more than possible you received a notice of a new claim which was later declared invalid - which happens in CA all the time.

Hard to say at this point without knowing more.

Thank you for the reply!

I got this letter today, 7/29/13. The quarters that show wages are Mar 2012 & June 12 (Jun 12 being the highest quarter earings used to support the claim). I have not worked since I filed for benefits in June 2012. The $ amount on this "award" is the same I got on my original claim back in June 12.

Another thing I find odd is that the current claim form I have (Tier 3 @ the top says claim expires 6/8/13) but the weeks I am currently sending in is 7/14/13 thru 2/27/13 (EDD got me behind a month when my claim originally expired last month). Perhaps that is irrelevant.

Depending on your earnings the week you filed, it is possible CA has found new claim eligibility even though you haven't worked. Q: Did you file late in the week? Did you earn at least $1,300 that week? If so, even though you haven't worked since, you might very well have a valid claim, although it is pretty late in the day for CA to now be discovering this since your bye was 6/8/13. I'm more inclined to think it is a computer glitch. If you receive claim forms for this new claim, then it "may" be for real, although I just read of someone in CA who was wrongly put on EUC and paid 4 weeks' benefits, which was later retracted. She's now in overpayment status.

I think CA may be having computer problems and am suspicious at this point. Try calling CA later in the week - when things settle down for them - to find out what's what.

Yes, b/c CA is paying that EUC off the old claim. So, the 6/8/13 exp. date is correct.
