I've recently completed a marathon of Prime Suspect, w/Helen Mirren. Also, Jack Irish, w/Guy Pearce. Just started a four episode series of AChristie's Poirot.

I've mentioned before that I subscribe to AcornTV which brings Brit programming to the U.S. Some old, some recent, some good, some better left where it was cancelled.

I did really enjoy the Endeavour series. I had read where Masterpiece had the single episode last year which was so well received that they produced this years four part series. IMDB looks like it has more episodes ready for next year.

I forget the name of a series I did see last year for which I commented in this forum, that in the police center a copper made a reference to 'verify with John Munch at New York Special Victims Unit'... no it wasn't L&O:UK.

Quote:
Wiki: The character of Munch has appeared in more television series than any other fictional character, appearing in nine series on five networks since the character's debut in 1993.
Before tuning in to watch these episodes I'll watch a Brit comedy or two, just to get tuned in to the accent.

I have watched a few episodes of some of these but sometimes have a hard time "getting" them. Sometimes the lingo stumps me. I also find the tone of these shows much more negative than those of an American murder mystery. PBS is now showing old D&P episodes and Scott and Bailey on Saturday nights and Endeavour on Sunday nights. Any opinions of these shows?
Surely a 'murder mystery' is a negative isn't it? A programme about murder has got to have some kind of negativity about it unless its a spoof.

I can't believe I don't see Midsomer Murders mentioned on here! The first 13 seasons were incredible with John Nettles as the lead. The series is still on the air but the main characters are different and the show has gone downhill. Midsomer Murders was my favorite show, I imagined myself living in one of those Midsomer Villages minus the dead bodies of course.

While I enjoyed Midsomer Murders it was kind of light weight as far as British mysteries go.More lkie Christie's who done it light weight mysteries really.Lightweight that is compared to the likes of Sayer's or even Dexter.
