As you certainly know, British murder mystery series on the "telly" have been exported to the US for many years. I can't name them all, but Taggart, Dalziel and Pascoe, Silent Witness, Cracker, Inspector Morse, A Touch of Frost and many others have been broadcast here. I have watched a few episodes of some of these but sometimes have a hard time "getting" them. Sometimes the lingo stumps me. I also find the tone of these shows much more negative than those of an American murder mystery. PBS is now showing old D&P episodes and Scott and Bailey on Saturday nights and Endeavour on Sunday nights. Any opinions of these shows?

I prefer the UK mystery and crime series, the actors in the American ones always look to perfect, like they have just stepped out of the beauty parlour, they look exactly what they are Hollywood actors.I like a bit of reality and authenticity.

I have never been stumped by the lingo of the endless American TV shows that come this way. The English language in most of its variants is quite easy to understand in context.

Yes! And I still have a huge crush on Martin Shaw

I think UK crime shows are a tad more realistic than the US. More gritty and how people really think and behave and less worried about being PC. I quite enjoy Law & Order: UK just for the differences. The only one I never really got into was Cracker but I miss seeing Silent Witness. Apparently The Bletchley Circle is coming back for a second round later this year?

As do I.
I know that one of the biggest criticisms of my personal favorite - "Waking the Dead" - was/is that they are always yelling and talking over each other.
Just like in "real" life.

Oh, gosh, me too.

I watched "Apparitions" over the last couple of weekends. So good.

Could be a year or more before we get the latest crime shows from the UK. How I miss UK TV.
