An ancient custom used by the Romans and the Greeks .... why should we change now ?

The question might be reversed and asked since so many were already driving on the left passing on the right why did America have to be different ?
Nowadays we don't have swords anymore, but we have gear sticks
Still, I have to admit driving on the left is nice for smokers driving automatic cars.

Because of the American influence on Canada.

I was told prior to renting a jeep in St. Croix to "keep your ass to the grass". Alluding to driving on the left in a left drive vehicle. It became my mantra while I was there.

The only problem is when you want to pass/overtake a car and there is nobody in the front passenger seat to be your eyes. My father drove for 2 years in England with a car that he brought from the USA when I was a child. So I remember when my mother wasn't with us being my father's eyes (in the front passenger seat) to tell him if the road was clear and he could pass/overtake the slow car in front of us.

However, you use a lasso with your right hand, so it is better to have the area to your right be open.
And you change gears, radio stations etc with your weak left hand leaving the strong right hand on the wheel.

How about that little bit of unpleasantness between 1861 and 1865?
The cavalry all wore sabres, (you may say sabers, but in England it's sabres), but the story goes that the Confederates were reluctant to use them in action, preferring hand-guns, no idea if that's true.
For the C.S.A. there were cavalry commanders like J.E.B. Stuart, Nathan Bedford Forrest, John Mosby, and Wade Hampton, who apparently shot three Federal troopers from their horses at Gettysburg, and ran another through with his sabre.
For the Union, there was Phil Sheridan, George A. Custer, George Stoneman, and John Buford, one of the first Federal generals to arrive in Gettysburg, and fight a delaying action until Union reinforcements arrived.
