The woman in her 40's was advised to return to the US and has avoided charges.

Apparently the American woman who was driving on the wrong side of the road, is the wife of a diplomat who is based at the US Spy base in Croughton in Northamptonshire, and was advised by US Authorities to go back to the US and claim Diplomatic Immunity. Sadly the 19 year old she hit with her car died of his injuries.

This has caused a major diplomatic incident between the US and UK, and has left a family devastated.

Police said they wanted to interview an American woman in her 40s.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said he had called the US Ambassador to express his "disappointment" she had left the country.

Supt Sarah Johnson said: "Northamptonshire Police followed all of its usual procedures following the incident, including liaising closely with the suspect, who engaged fully with us at the time and had previously confirmed to us that she had no plans to leave the country in the near future.

Diplomats should have limited and only limited rotection. The spouse or family of one should have none.
Sad to hear of the death.
In NYC .with the UN there small petty crime is near out of control from delegates.eg parking speeding .eat and run etc...

I can think of three scenarios for the accident:

1. She was passing another car and didn't see the teen in time to pull back.

2. She had some medical crisis which caused her to swerve out of her lane and into the oncoming one.

3. She was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The fact that she was "advised" to leave the U.K., which has an honest, fair justice system, and that she did indeed flee, suggests that #3 is the most likely scenario and that the Americans know that she was criminally negligent and conspired to help her escape justice.

#3 is the least likely reason to flee...

Remember until the Embassy permit the police to question her they can't do anything. By the time permission is granted the won't be enough intoxicants in her blood to confirm point 3.

Chances are it's as simple as she was driving on the wrong side of the road, at just the wrong time. Then freaked out. No real need for big conspiracies.

This is why the world hates US-Americans. Cradle of entitled bunch of so and so's. That Cow needs to be brought to justice I hope Northamptonshire police leak the suspect to the press if the US administration is too gutless and immoral to do anything.

As for the ambassador's letter he can stick where the sun don't shine! The poor family, I hope they achieve some justice closure and peace one day, my heart goes out to them.

Dreadful. Diplomatic immunity should be severely restricted & not available for spouse or family. In all countries too.

Hmmm, I've travelled extensively in the UK and Europe, and never heard this before. So the world hates Americans? Learn something new every day.
