$.02--all I know is that during WW2--maybe even WW1--maybe even further back---smoking was 'cool'--that caught on--'aristocrats'/i will do as i please--no need to say more--when people are 'very restricted' in any way they will begin to find outlets--no secret to that--government, church--values/laws of the land--that will do it--the pressures of war--emotional angst of any kind things that are stressful--better to find other ways to release the mental, emotional, physical pressures--reduce violent crime and all that
