As the title suggests i've acquired a new job in Oxnard, probably start in October. I'm from Tempe, AZ, but currently working and living in Seattle. I can't wait to get out of this hellhole. Im 39 yr old single, straight, white, male. There I think I got all the main ones lol. Probably looking for an apartment to rent or a small 2bd house/condo. I know if this was someone moving to AZ I could help them so much by saying City A: Ghetto, City B: white trash, City C: Stuck up Barbie *******, ect... you get the point. Just looking for some info like that. I'm considering all places that would be no more than a 45 minute commute by car.

Thanks in advance so much
Tony

Camarillo and east into Thousand Oaks/Conejo Valley/Moorpark Simi: Family neighborhoods, possible too boring but nice places to live.
Oxnard: Some bad parts, some OK parts, great weather, close commute
Ventura: Best bet for single scene on the Oxnard Plain, excellent weather, historical, probably the "coolest" or "hippest".
Santa Barbara: Too far, very expensive
Santa Paula: Too far, too family, semi-rural

Charles, perfect! This is the kind of info i'm looking for. You can learn a lot of almanac type facts and data but that really doesn't help. Short of being able to just drive around down there for a week or two, instead I decided to post. Thanks again. Anyone else?

I should clarify "single guy" in my post above. I'm unmarried, but have a girlfriend who is much younger than I who likes to go out and do fun things that singles may normally do.

I would NOT want to live in Oxnard. Just my personal opinion. Perhaps not the opinion of others.

Camarillo is close but probably too boring! Simi & TO are great towns. Safe and quiet but perhaps a little too safe and quiet I'd really suggest driving around these towns and seeing for yourself.

Ventura is probably your best bet! Still, check out Simi, TO, Moorpark for sure. These may work for you.

Well that changes everything, rent a 1bd/condo in Malibu or its environs and spend at least 12 hours a day out of the house commute/work.
Don't worry about the space because after a few weeks you wont be seeing that much of your girlfriend anyway.
Joking aside Charles idea of Ventura is to be seriously checked out.

Ventura sounds like your best bet, but don't write off Oxnard, there are some very nice parts.

Ventura is slightly 'hipper' than some of the sleepier communities in the county, but not so hip it hurts. Personally I got bored after a while as I'm use to living in large vibrant cities with a lot of culture on offer.

I think a good place of reference is Ventura County Star: Local Ventura, California News Delivered Throughout the Day. - it's the daily newspaper for Ventura County, which has quite an interactive on line community....you might want to hit up some of the posters.

The VC Reporter I guess is the equivalent to The Stranger and is also online.

I believe he also wrote 'Ghetto' also...I don't see any racial bias in his post.

I live in Oxnard and work in Ventura. Then again I live on the North Side of Oxnard and you may love that part of the city.

If I was going to choose Oxnard, was single, renting a place, had a young girlfriend, and wanted a nice new modern place, I would choose River Park. They have a newer (Built in 2008) apartment complex. Apartment Oxnard - Serenade at RiverPark - Oxnard, CA 93036 The appliances are all stainless, includes your own washer and dryer, and you can get a garage. The community is close to Oxnard and just off the 101 freeway.

Ventura is also very nice. Lots of places to choose from. It is a best bet for the single life style. Lots of clubs now around downtown.
