My husband and I are considering moving to Ventura and we both currently work in SB/Goleta. What is the best time in the morning to commute from Ventura (Midtown) north??? I will most likely need to go in earlier because I have to be at work by 7:45 but my husband doesnt have to be in until a little later like 9:00. We are wondering the optimal times to commute so we can hit the least amount of traffic. Please help???

Bear in mind I left Ventura 6 months ago so thing change, but at that time they were starting a project to widen certain parts of the 101 freeway. I think its due to be completed late this year or next (from memory).
The best times I found were to go before 7am or after 9am, with most of the congestion coming after Carpinteria. Accidents on that stretch of the 1010 will also cause havoc!

no matter what if you are leaving in the morning on week day prepare to sit in traffic if you are driving from Ventura to SB, however I must say driving home after work anytime after 4 and before 6 is about ten times worse.

Always carry a complete change of clothes, good walking shoes, water, food, cash and a sleeping bag in your car. If the 101 goes down, you will be stranded on whichever end of the 101 you are on at the time, or in your car. During the last big wildfire, and the last big landslide (not to mention earthquake potential) this stranding happened, and motels would only take cash. The only other route (the 150) is often occupied by emergency workers and may be closed as well.

My boss was stuck in SB and could not get back to Ventura for 4 days once.

4 Days? One could take 166 to 33 and down to Ventura in 4 hours.

Maybe, but an 8-hour commute pretty much shoots the workday!
