Millions had no trouble getting across. The cartels have no trouble getting across. I have relatives in Texas near the border. They see illegal border crossers all the time. Border Patrol does nothing about it (stretched too thin I guess).

I have an old college friend who works the sourthern border for the border patrol and he said it is like bailing a lake with a spoon during a rainstorm....

Government reactions like this are more show than "go" in my opinion. They produce an obvious show of force which they hope discourages attempts to break the law yet in reality are pretty ineffective against the determined. Look at border security, airport security and gun laws for examples.
