Hello everyone!
I am a Med Tech and I have been contacted by The Rutland hospital about a possible job opening there. I am from northern MN, and I am wodering if you could give me an idea on life around there, where the cheapest towns close to Rutland are as far as rent, and if you could give me an idea on cost of living... I heard it is high... how high? (ie grocery bills, gas, ...)

Hey...I live in Rutland County and yes...the cost of living is rising in VT. Gas is currently at $3.15 per gallon....Rutland City is not a very reasonable city to live in. Nearby towns would be West Rutland, No. Clarendon, Wallingford, or Castleton. Rentals seem quite high to me, but if you don't require a large space you may be able to find something initially reasonable. The whole county is as stated "Rut Land" There isn't much to do or see, but the outskirts are beautiful. If you have a decent job, then you've already eliminated one of your obstacles. For a two bedroom unit, expect to pay a minimum of $700 plus utilities. Sometimes in West Rutland I see rentals for a bit less. Fair Haven is about 16 miles west of Rutland and about a 25 minute commute to the hospital. You may be able to find a more economical rental. I could help point you in the direction of landlords and rental places if you would like. Good luck.

Trombley,

I'm not the original poster, but I'd appreciate any tips you have on small, cheap, CLEAN rentals in or around the Rutland area. My husband is working near Rutland and needs a short-term apt. until we sell our home here in PA and the whole family can move up (we'll buy a house, then). If you need my email address, let me know.
