The last few years that we lived in the NEK and visited family between Thanksgiving and Christmas, each and every time NC had more snow than we had at our house, the last time in 2014, we had green grass at home while Greenville had 6 inches of snow. It was really the craziest thing.

When I moved to VT in 1999, we used to get some serious snow, but it since about 2008, the snowfall and how long it lasts has been steadily shrinking.

If you love snow, look in and around the top 1/3 of the state or along Route 100. Those areas still get idyllic winters.

Will you be moving here or just visiting? If moving here, be prepared to buy some serious winter clothing. What passes for a winter coat in NC is considered a fall jacket up here.

Just visiting. I'll be sure to pack warm clothes, though.
