Sure! The Vermont Employees Credit Union. Living and/or working in Rutland (along with 6 other Vermont counties) is enough to make you eligible to bank there. Because of its charter, you know it won't be taken over by a bloated, out-of-state corporation, which seems to be the way local banks are going.

Yes...the credit union is a good choice. If you'd rather go with a traditional bank, Chittenden and Merchants are good bets. I use Citizens Bank up here in Burington and am happy-not sure if they have branches in Rutland or not, but if so, I can recommend them.

Default Heritage Family Credit Union

I use Heritage Family Credit Union and love them. The reason I choose them over the VSECU is because they have two actual full service locations in Rutland, an ATM in Center Rutland, a full service location in Fair Haven among other places outside the Rutland area. VSECU only has one location that I am aware of in the Rutland area, which is inside the Asa Bloomer Building that is open limited hours, no Saturday hours, no drive up and very little if any, face to face transactions.

Hope this helps!

My parents have banked with the Heritage Family Credit Union for years and are happy customers. So, a second recommendation for them.

I've heard only good things about them, too. I'm also a credit union fan on general principles.

I agree. Why pay all the little fees that regular banks charge. Credit Unions are definitely the way to go!
