We're planning a trip to Vermont the week of October 12 and would love some suggestions as to where we would probably see some great fall color. I'm not at all familiar with areas in Vermont, so if you could be a bit specific, that would be very helpful!

You'll probably want to be in the central to southern half of the state. Look at a map of Vermont and find Route 4 - it runs east/west through central Vermont. Look for lodging along this corridor (book NOW as places get booked months in advance). From here you are in a good central spot for day trips- you can head north if the foliage is better there, or south for the same reason. Woodstock is very popular with tourists - it's a tourist oriented town, a version of what tourists think Vermont is all about (us natives would probably disagree . It's a lovely town though with lots of lodging and restaurant choices.

Also try Rte. 100....that actually goes throught the middle of the state, in the higher elevation. Areas where the colors are beautiful...

remember, while in Vermont you can call 1800VERMONT and get the latest foliage report so it can help you decide on which road to follow when touring around the area.
You can also check this foliage forecaster: The Foliage Forecaster @Vermont's Fall Foliage Central - Vermont Vacation.com | (http://www.vermontvacation.com/seasons/forecaster.asp - broken link) .
Remember that this forecaster uses information from past years and Mother Nature loves to trick us.

Pretty much anywhere where color is in peak mode.

There's no way of knowing. Foliage has been generally late over the last few years and there was plenty of color in Northern Vermont on Oct 12 last year. But in years past the 12th was late for the Northern section. It's not a bad idea to station yourself in the central part of the state, that way you can drive either a bit south or north depending on foliage progress.
