I'll be in Vermont (Stowe) tomorrow for a week’s vacation. I was thinking about taking the family to visit Montreal...Is it worth it? Any points of interest worth noting? We're also taking the drive over to Mt. Washington for the auto road, looking forward to that.
Thanks!

Montreal is a great day trip. BUT, you all need passports now though kids under a certain age (15 or 16) only need birth certs. I'll post more later...

I'd go to the Old Port. Very European feeling and very beautiful. You could also go to the top of Mont Royal - there is a great lookout there. If your kids like amusement parks, La Ronde is awesome. Or go check out the Botanical Gardens. So much to see and do, so little time.

Underground Montreal is cool. The Cathedral (Notre Dame, I think) is unbelievably beautiful. And Schwartz's, for the smoked meat.

Montreal's underground city is unique and alot of fun to check out. If you go out to the Botanical Garden near Olympic Stadium I enjoy, not for everyone, the Insectarium.

I agree with all of the above! DH and I were just in Montreal several weeks ago and loved it! We try to visit Montreal every couple of years at least. Our son went on a college biology class trip last year to the Insectarium, he suggested we see it. It was incredible. The nearby Botanical Gardens are worth visiting too.

We also like to buy sulfite free European wines while in Canada, which cannot be sold in the U.S. The one thing mentioned above that we were not aware of is Schwartz's smoked meats. I'll add that to the to-do list for the next visit!

Make sure to visit the many art galleries in Montreal. And enjoy the amazing restaurants! So much to do in this beautiful city.

I always go there. There's always a wait. Oddly the length of the line is always about the same -15 minutes. If you go by yourself you are seated at a lunch type counter. If you go as a couple or group, you will be crammed into tiny tables with other people. Meat is delicious.

There is also a great Europen food shop a few doors away. I can't remember the name but I believe Europe is in the title. Vieux Europe maybe?

I'm not much into cities, but the place I enjoyed most in Montreal was the biodome. Interesting place!
