Hi. My mom (47yo) is new to the Portsmouth area (from Long Island, NY) and looking to meet new people but, she's having a hard time.
Any suggestions on where she could meet other people her age?

I'd recommend she take some classes that are usually offered at community centers or the gym even. Things like painting, a foreign language, pottery, cooking, or yoga, tend to have many people her age, often who joined half out of interest in the subject they're studying, and half hoping to meet people their age so there will be a lot of people in the same situation.

There's also always church.

Default Meeting New People

I would recommend joining a Church. Southern social life revolves around a closely knit community of like-minded individuals.

roanker you are so right on, thats the way we make friends and create community. Also, local bookstores, hanging out--going to book readings, lectures.

Also, join a political campaign where you can meet others helping out. go to the community center, join a gym, look in the local paper and find out local groups to join that suit your interests.
