Hi! We are possibly moving to Va from Ga within the next few months. We used to live in Reston, Va, and always loved driving through the Shenandoah area, so we're excited about it, but also nervous because we really don't know the area.

We could live anywhere from 30 minutes south of Harrisonburg to 45 minutes north of Harrisonburg (just below Winchester). After reading the threads on here, Bridgewater looked like a possible area, but there weren't many houses available. Also, we would love to be able to rent for a year before buying (I've had difficulty finding a rental we might like in the Harrisonburg area.....It seemed like it was mostly apartment complexes).

We have 3 small children, and education is our top priority for finding a home. I also want to be near shopping, etc., and not too rural. Our budget is about $300 to $500k.

Thanks for any advice you might have!!

I'd probably try for somewhere near JMU as you'll have more shopping and dining options and more activities. I recall when my child went to school there there were some nice areas East of Harrisonburg on the way to Massanutten.

Have you checked around Dayton? Just north of Bridgewater, and very convenient to Hburg.

We love Basye, Va due to the amenities at Bryce Resort. I have no idea about the schools though. There is a lake for swimming and fishing and a small ski resort with skiing and tubing. There is also a golf course. The major downside is you have to drive a ways for groceries and most restaurants. Houses are CHEAP there...

Thanks everyone! I will check out all of those areas. I was also able to find a great website to get information about the different schools in VA.....But if anyone has any firsthand experience, I'd love to hear it!
