How would you describe this area? I am in my 50's and looking for a more fun and interesting life style.

How is the job market? What is an average apartment? Is there a lot to do?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Umm... do you have a lot of money? Will your job get you a lot of money? The market here is slightly better than most places I believe but it also depends on your job. I guess there are so many people in dc it would be easier to meet people. Maybe?

The D.C. metropolitan area overall has a very sophisticated population, with world-class cultural attractions, access to both mountains and shoreline within a 2- hours drive, and access to 3 airports. Local amenities such as roads, health care, community recreation, public transportation, and other services are good. However, the cost of housing, and taxes, are also high, unless you live in one of the less-desirable neighborhoods, or if you have a roommate. The D.C. area also has some of the nation's worst road traffic. Is your profession one that is in high demand?

At age 50 you better.....A. be transferring laterally within the same company(with a pay raise to keep up with the cost of living), B. have a very marketable and in demand skill(s) so that you can gain employment or C. be independently wealthy. You better have money set aside for the time you will need to establish yourself here.

Are you planning on retiring or something? You would probably find a million things to do if working or retired.

If I'm 50 and starting over, I'm headed to Florida. That's just me. Tired of the big city rat race. If I could hit the beach in the afternoons sipping on mojitos after work, I could add years to my life! I would just live a much simpler life overall.

I'd head somewhere like Atlanta, Nashville, Savannah or New Orleans. Washington, DC has too many success-oriented, driven and money-conscious people to ever be a "fun" place. Also too much traffic and too crowded to ever relax in the area.

Are you single? Overall, I'd say, yes! good place to live, jobs, lots to do here. Of course it depends on your interests. Rents are high, one or two bedroom, depending on the area, go $1500-3,000 a month

What kind of job would you get down in Florida? I was there on Labor Day, steamy down there.....watching the Tampa game, 100 degrees!

If I was 50 and has to start over, I'd leave the country.

So Wash., DC sounds a lot like NYC. I would love a walking city, with lots of fun things to do.
