Are there any plans for extending the MARC Penn Line to the Philly suburbs(Elkton, MD; Newark, DE)?

yes, but funding and track infrastructure is a big problem. Stations are proposed in Northeast and Elkton.

Any idea what size trains they are using for the weekend service? How many cars, are they using double deck cars? Just trying to get an idea of ridership.

I took it when i was in town for a weekend. 3 car trains, half full going to Baltimore in the morning, full coming back to DC in the afternoon. a couple a bi-levels and a single level car. It was a cold January weekend with still plenty of snow on the ground probably not a good weekend for comparison.
