Speaking of that lease, it is another first for PG in terms of retail. Urban Outfitters is a nice clothing store and is along the lines of what I've been calling for in a college town of 35,000+ students who spend a lot of money on clothes.
Makes sense....the grocery store idea of yours is also a good one.

I searched the college park website (collegepark md.gov) and found a presentation of the redev of downtown. It's a PDF so I can't post but if you go to that website and click on council meetings/agendas/2014 agendas/jan 14 meeting agenda.pdf you can see it.

They reference the block with urban outfitters as having a "signature retail store" so I guess we know who that will be. According to the doc, the shopping center is slated for near term redev as well with a 6 story building with retail at the base and housing above. I'm guessing that plans are in the works for that space. I think that block is key to downtown. Interesting presentation.

Thanks for the info! It was a good read. It seems like they are trying to figure out how best to redevelop city hall. I like option 3.

Awesome! It's about time. Thanks for sharing. Less than two years to go. It's a shame that this started in 2006. Almost 10 years later. These infill developments on Rt. 1 can't come fast enough.

The lawsuit has no teeth. The way I read it is that the developers and the city are still working together on the details of the bridge. So there is no need for a lawsuit in that regard. University Park was supposed to be mounting a second appeal, but I haven't heard anything about that yet.

Once the shovel hits the ground, lawsuits become technicalities. Especially after the first appeal was dismissed. And to be honest, the lawsuits were about planning board procedure more than peoples' lives being destroyed by the development.

In one of these threads, I provided a series of designs that transformed throughout the planning process from community output. You can see how the developer worked with the community. While this developer didn't have the best track record throughout the process, they made a respectable attempt to work with the community.

You can not have it both ways of opposing the plans to build a new Road Connecting the I-95 Interchange and University of MD and making traffic worse on US Highway 1 by making the road tighter with lower speeds... If you can not see your views as a potential to make College Park less attractive for future University of MD students then you really don't give a sh-- about improving the quality of College ark and increasing Economic Growth for College Park......

It won't in your world but in Reality it will happen.....
