However the area under the bridge - do people actually walk or bike there? Great that there are now some LED lights but in general it looks like the movie set for a homeless section of town. Looks run down and totally uninviting. Just better lit now. Maybe it could be paved and cleaned up?
The bike path part is paved. There is an effort to get the walls painted with art.

Just MO but that would seem annoying to me if I was driving at night.

A long-delayed townhome project is finally moving ahead along the Route 1 corridor in College Park.
Signs appeared recently near the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Cherokee Street, just north of the University Boulevard overpass, advertising Metropolitan at College Park, “luxury urban-style townhomes” with two-car garages.
City staff confirmed to the Hyattsville Wire that Metropolitan is the new name for a project previously called called The Boulevard and Jefferson Square.
Now being developed by Virginia-based CalAtlantic Homes, a division of Lennar, the project will have 75 townhomes and a multi-family building with retail along Baltimore Avenue.
Construction is underway on the townhomes while the company seeks financing for the multi-family portion of the project.

How is Lennar as a home builder?

Idk why people are mad about this. It's an empty spot.

There are a lot of NIMBYs in my neighborhood in Hollywood on Nextdoor and listservs complaining about this development and others.

The same ones that wanted the current mayor out because he was "in bed with the UMD doing their bidding". One poster went as far as saying that the Purple line was a UMD pet project, they really are that delusional.

I'll say it again. You can't live next to a state's flagship university on a major route into a major city and expect it to remain like it was in the 80s. I think people have been lulled into a false sense of security because development in the county has taken so long to gain any momentum.

Now that the momentum is here, they are up in arms. It was coming sooner or later. If they want lower density, Bowie is still pretty suburban. You're just not going to have a bedroom community in College Park forever. All this development is long overdue.
