It’s like the Rooney rule. They do the song and dance just to say they did it and keep it moving. It’s a joke.

According to the Washington area Council of governments, 25 % of federal employees in the metro area live in PG County --but only 4% of federal jobs are in PG County. And that 4% consists of mostly the same few federal establishments that existed 70 years ago when I was born. The result is long-standing horrendous commuter traffic on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. GSA needs to be called out on their decades long favoritism for Northern Virginia.

If being close to Quantico is the most import metric, then move the FBI training facilities to East MoCo. Put the FBI HQ in Greenbelt. East Moco Wins. PG wins. Problem solved. hehe. Just kidding.

The like of NIH and NIST etc. are in MoCo. But the whole metro area has long have problems with jobs being in the western side of metro (i.e. NoVA and MoCo) compare to the east (aka PG County).

PG County itself also lacks jobs overall - compare to FFX and MoCo where large amount of people don't even leave the county...

FFX:
47.1% Fairfax Co
12% DC
8.5% Arlington

MoCo:
46.6% Montgomery County
18.3% DC
7.4% PG County

PG County:
27.7% DC
25.2% PG County
12.9% MoCo

"Government funding deal hits 11th-hour snag: The FBI headquarters

It's Maryland Democrats versus Virginia Democrats over the location of a new building, as Congress races to finish its last big job of the year."

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/1...rters-00074663

We're counting on you, Steny. Hoping we'll get a favorable outcome, but I have no idea how they'll resolve this in Congress by the end of the week let alone tonight. Steny is pushing to include language in the Omnibus bill that increases the weighting for equity on the grading rubric, per the Biden exec order.

If no deal is made between MD and VA, the counteroffer from other members of Congress is to just keep the same language in the omnibus bill, which strongly favors Virginia so they won't have to pass a stopgap bill for the rest of the year. It's an uphill battle for MD.

This has historically been the case. Which is why the equity piece was included. Who is surprised that MD is, once again, fighting an uphill battle? NoVa got AMazon's HQ2. They have datacenter alley and their own Silicon Road. They want it all.

So the Senate passed the Omnibus bill today. I hear it just has to go back to the House for finalized votes where it will pass. Where do I go to see the language specifics, and what if anything it says about FBI HQ relocation?

https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/l...0-a9a3f822f9fb

"The language secured by the lawmakers – included within the Omnibus Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations text – is below. In addition to this language the lawmakers secured $375 million for the headquarters project in FSGG funding.

'The Administrator of the General Services Administration shall select a site from one of the three listed in the General Services Administration (GSA) Fiscal Year 2017 PNCR-FBI-NCR17 prospectus for a new fully consolidated Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) headquarters.

In considering the September 2022 and amended November 2022 GSA Site Selection Plan for the FBI Suburban Headquarters, not later than 90 days after enactment, prior to any action by the GSA site selection panel for the new Federal FBI headquarters, the GSA Administrator shall conduct separate and detailed consultations with individuals representing the sites from the State of Maryland and Commonwealth of Virginia to further consider perspectives related to mission requirements, sustainable siting and equity, and evaluate the viability of the GSA’s Site Selection Criteria for the FBI Headquarters to ensure it is consistent with Congressional intent as expressed in the resolution of the Committee on Environment and Public Works of the Senate (112th Congress), adopted December 8, 2011 and further described in the General Services Administration Fiscal Year 2017 PNCR-FBI-NCR 17 prospectus. Following those consultations, the Administrator shall proceed with the site selection process.'"
