DC is a city physically located in the southern U.S. If Virginia is southern, Maryland is too, and so is DC.

But today DC doesn't have a "Southern" environment as it is urban, as you are saying. But you could say the same thing about Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston.

If you can't keep your neighborhood in order, tear it down and put a organic grocery in it's place! I don't even eat organic food but at least it will be better to look at and not bother me while I'm minding my own business...
Wow that's not offensive at all.

The discussion is not about geography, but culture. I'm not sure how much physical location matters in terms of city's culture. That said, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas possess much more of a southern culture than DC--I don't think there's much room for debate on that.

Well, honestly that might have been the case 20-30 years ago, but I think the influx of northerners means so much has changed.

Dc is NOT a Southern city...

People who say this always

1) have never lived here an extended period of time

2) never even set foot in the South.

At the end of the day DC is a northern city that just happens to be south of the Mason Dixon line. Being south of said line alone doesn't make DC southern. DC is simply not in the South.

DC is not a southern city. If it's a southern city then so is Miami.

Grits are my measure. If when you order breakfast they ask you if you want grits, you are in the South.
