Thanks Deeman804. Good to hear someone lives there and likes it. I realize it is not a great residential neighborhood - or the best around - but I only need it for 1 year. Plus I have to get a place in DC in addition to keeping my place back home! So, economy is important as well. Thanks for your input.

There are many new condo buildings are coming up in the Union Station neighborhood. I work in the building connected to the Union Station and live on K St. & 3rd N.E. The neighborhood is safe and everything is in a walking distance around here.

200 K St. N.W. (as well as 1st & E N.W.) will be closer to Chinatown and there's plenty of stuff around there too.

For groceries, there's Harris Teeter at 1st & M NE and soon a Wal-Mart at Mass & H NW. A whole lot of new construction is underway in Mount Vernon Triangle, NoMa, and Northwest One (the redevelopment of the projects around Sursum Corda).

Thanks again.
That's a perfectly fine area. It's on the edge of downtown but you still have a lot more amenities than some people here think. I'm not sure what some people here are thinking when they talk about basic amenities. Most likely no matter where you go you won't be right next to a grocery store. It's still near by everything you need.

Totally safe, at all hours. Trains arrive there all night, and people are in the area.
