The way I see it... metro will be over crowded a lot more often than they will be in crashes. So I prefer more exits. If this was a small order of cars then I wouldn't care. But they are ordering between 528 and 740. These will be almost the entire fleet in the next decade. By then metro will be much more crowded and we will need those extra doors.

The thing I don't like about the 7000 series cars is that the end doors are closer to the center of the car and in a different spot than the 1000 to 6000 series cars. For people like me who like to stand on the platforms where the doors will be located, the different door location (about 3-5 feet offset relative to the older rail cars) is a pain in the butt.

Funny you mention that because that is actually something I really love about the 7000 series. I like that there is less space between the doors. In the 1000-6000 series.. if you sit in the middle seats during rush hour.. good luck getting out in time for your stop. You have to push through a good 8 feet of standing people to get to a door.

I also like that the new cars have more seating room at the ends of each car. Overall, I think the new cars are a massive improvement. The only thing I don't like is they didn't add extra doors.
