I would be hesitant. First off, there's a good chance you'll miss your stop. Also, maybe someone steals your X and then darts out the doors while you're dozed off.

Regarding someone stealing your X and then darts out the door....what if you do it only during rush hours when there are full of other professionals around and you don't have anything that's valuable at all to be grabbed?
Do you think it's totally normal or do you think it's slightly weird?
Regular occurrence on the Blue and Red lines in Chicago. I had a friend hop on in the Loop was supposed to get off at Western and ended waking up at OHare. DC Metro rides are so jumpy and stop/start I think it would be hard to sleep a whole train ride
I have dozed off myself. It happens after a long day sometimes. It's in no ways intentional. People work hard here, and sometimes staying awake is a struggle.
