IF YOU RIDE AROUND WARD 7 AND OTHER PARTS OF SE YOU WILL SEE COMMUNITYS BEING THROWN UP THAT RESEMBLE NOTHING OF A CITY COMMUNITY. THE CITY ALLOW THESE DEVELOPERS TO PUT UP GARBAGE IN THESE AREAS OF THE CITY BECAUSE THEY FIGURE THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THESE AREAS COULD CARE LESS AND THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH OUR COMMUNITY. SOME OF THE AREAS I AM SPEAKING OF ARE THE OLD EAST CAPITOL DWELLINGS THAT IS NOW CAPITOL GATEWAYS AND THE OLD EAST GATE WHICH NOW LOOKS LIKE A BEACH COMMUNITY IN THE MIDDLE OF SOUTH EAST WASHINGTON. IT LOOKS OUT OF PLACE AND IT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE GREAT PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUNITY. " WE ARE REVITALIZING THE AREA FOR THE COMMUNITY" I SAY BULL#$#w IF WANT O DO THAT SPEND THE MONEY PUT UP BRICK HOMES OR RENOVATE THE OLD ONES YOU HAVE TORN DOWN TO KEEP THE TRUE IDENITY OF THE CITY.....

IF U GO UPTOWN OR IN SOME PARTS OF NE U WILL NEVER SEE THESE TYPES OF COMMUNITYS BEING THROWN UP BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALWAYS LOOKED DOWN SE AS SECOND RATE CITIZENS OF THIS CITY AND WE CAN DO WHAT EVER TO THEM. IM NO SAINT BUT IT IS REDICOLOUS TO SEE THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE IN SE AND IN OTHER AREAS EAST OF THE RIVER.....

Hopefully some of the section 8 crew that moved in wont tear it up.

You can't have it both ways. You can't complain about poor funding for schools and wanting crime to go down and not do things to attract smart educated people who are making a good living (taxes) and being good citizens. Housing is whats gonna attract them plus redevelopment. I say great and those professionals will become part of the community and intermingle with the locals...its the formulas city's across the country are following to find prosperity and low crime...be happy

I say anything is an improvement. Be glad that development is flowing that way finally.

I purchased a condo in that area almost two years ago and I welcome the long overdue new construction to our community. I'm sure that every redevelopment has its faults however; this is just the first stage of many redevelopment projects in that area. It is very rare these days that you will find new construction in the inner city similar to construction of the 50's and 60's.

To me it has never looked like the rest of the city. Most of the houses resemble the colonials build from the 30's-50's in the suburbs more than the late 19th/early 20th century brownstones in the rest of DC. I think that for the same reasons new development there is going to look more like what you'd find in the suburbs than the high end restorations and construction in NW and even NE. Maybe it'll be charming in 60-80 years...all buildings get more appealing by then.
