So i read somewhere online that the green line is pretty scary? Something I should avoid? A girl said she moved else where to avoid the green line. Is this something i should be concerned about?
The Green Line isn't an area. It's an entire Metro line, and no it isn't scary. Moving somewhere else to avoid it is pretty silly. Some of DC's neatest neighborhoods are served by the Green Line--Penn Quarter/Chinatown, U Street, Logan Circle, Columbia Heights--so you'd be missing out on a lot if you avoided it. That said, it does go through some rough areas, particularly as it winds through Southeast and into PG County.

So anything SE of the Waterfront-SEU station is bad?

Though there are some nice areas, the general rule of thumb is that anything east of the Anacostia River is the rough part of DC.
That woman who purposely avoided the green line is pretty absurd. It's perfectly fine from Greenbelt down to Navy Yard and, as mentioned above, has some of the city's most vibrant and interesting neighborhoods.
Alrighty, thanks everyone. I'll look forward to living in a brand new big city. I'll prolly end up living near prince georges station. Maybe I'll run into ya in august!
Is columbia heights or adams morgan safe to walk around at night (e.g. 1am?) what times do metrorail and metrobus close? TIA
Adams Morgan, for the most part yes.
Columbia heights, I would use much more caution, particularly on the residential streets. It's very hit and miss up there. I'm not saying avoid the neighborhood (I just got back from buying groceries up there), but caution is advised.
thanks. so out of Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, Petworth, Fort Totten, and Adams Morgan, how would you rate what is safest to walk at night (I dont have a car)?
I know i will do lots of study sessions with classmates around town/on campus/library, and tend to go home late, as I always did in undergrad.
Would you rate Adams Morgans as safest overall?
(reminder, im going to HU)
