For anybody curious to know what Olympia is like, this virtual tour gives a real nice impression. I hope it will prompt a visit.

For the city that gets the most days of rain than anywhere else in the country, is it coincidental that just about all the scenes in the tour show crystal clear blue skies??!

No, ribbing aside, Olympia is a great city. It does have its pros and cons but overall, a great place to live if you can accept the climate.

Wow, Olympia is a beautiful city. Unfortunately, I never got to visit on my Washington trip. The only part of it I saw was the capitol dome rising majestically above the evergreens, and that alone was a sight!

It's beautiful. It does get 51" of rain.

We have been checking out Olympia for our family.

We are retiring from our current business and selling everything to relocate.

We have children and want to find them good schools in a good neighborhood. I'm not crazy about the schools here, even though they are rated very high. It seems they are more concerned about their state numbers and packing the classrooms with 32 kids. The poor teachers are stressed to the max.

I also like Anacortes.

Any info on these areas and surrounding towns.

Thanks!

P.S. what is the price range for the older homes in Olympia similar to the ones that were on the tour?

Is it really true that Olympia gets the most rain in the country? I find that really hard to believe.
Samsmom, the homes you saw in the tour are all in the historic South Capitol Campus neighborhood. I live in this neighborhood and absolutely love it, because the groomed grounds of the state capitol are just a short stroll away, as is Capitol Lake and downtown. Homes in our neighborhood range anywhere between $240,000 and $540,000 (depending on size). There is not a lot of turn-around in home sales and if homes come on the market, they usually don't stay there for long. Part of the reason this neighborhood is in high demand is that Lincoln Elementary School is in our neighborhood. Lincoln is an alternative school that has a waiting list for enrollment. Any children living in the neighborhood get guaranteed enrollment. Additional students are selected by lottery.

Another area of Olympia with older homes is the East Side. The prices there are from the low $ 200Ks to the mid $ 300Ks.

No no, not "most rain in the country" but "most DAYS of rain in the country."

We had a thread somewhere a few months ago that gave a link to that article. I don't know if I can find it but I'll go back and try.
