This time of year, if you're going to the ocean, you should HOPE for there to be big storms off-shore and big surf. Big noisy surf crashing on the jetties is the only real reason to GO to the ocean in winter.

Then stay a nice at the lodge in Tokeland, and a night at the lodge in Lake Quinalt.

Hoh Rain forest. It will likely be aptly named.

Charter fishing out of Sekieu or Westport? Get yourself a salmon and a great NW experience?

One-third of the nation's cranberry crop is grown on the SW Washington coast. Could be a good chance to meet the locals.

A local curiosity is Washaway Beach: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...lution-n930646
Thank you, CrazyDonkey! Very helpful suggestions indeed!

Thank you, Diana! Will definitely go to the Hoh Rain Forest. Tokeland and Lake Quinalt too. Need to look at the map and plan our route.

Many thanks!

Klalaloch Lodge... is what I meant up there when I said Tokeland. Not as many stars as Lake Quinalt, but cheaper too... a quaint OLD hotel on the beach.

Check out AirBnbs that are right on the ocean too, or near other attractions.... can be a lot more interesting than a hotel.

Thank you so very much, CrazyDonkey! This is tremendously helpful! Exactly the kind of places and activities that interest us. Our most prized experience in Portland was the visiting the Hoyt Arboretum in Washington Park. So, Quinault rain forest itself will make the trip!

Thanks again!

I like Cathlamet and Skamokawa great vistas of the Columbia River - Vista Park has plenty of deserted beach. We may spend summers there.

The Tokeland Hotel (and Restaurant) is the oldest hotel in the state of Washington:

Crazy Donkey.... I may be remembering a little of both the Tokeland Hotel, and the Klalaloch. And I'm fuzzy enough to not be sure I haven't got them confused. They're both great old beach hotels.
