Sydney, Australia

Jan-2011

Lowest Minimum 17.2 C (63 F)
Average Minimum 20.9 C (69.6 F)
Highest Minimum 23.3 C (73.9 F)

Lowest Maximum 21.3 C (70.3 F)
Average Maximum 27.4 C (81.3 F)
Highest Maximum 35.4 C (95.7 F)

Total Rainfall 53.8 mm (2.12 inches)
Total Sunshine 236.2 hours
Avg Sunshine / Day 7.6 hrs/day

A warmer and sunnier January than the long term trend with both sunshine and average max temps approx 4% above the long term average.

A total of 15 rain days, but total rainfall at just 53.8mm is less than half of what should be expected.

It was much better than I anticipated (esp. at the midway through the month point) - however I am much like your own preferences in that I was happier more for the marginally above sunshine levels (the heat and humidity I am impartial to or more indifferent to).

The high sunshine totals properly kicked in from 20 Jan onwards - not surprisingly, there has been a distinct lack of rainfall since then as well.

Looking at the data again, we had 10 straight days of measureable rainfall (from 7 Jan - 16 Jan inclusive) however the total over that period was just 32mm. More what I would have expected of somewhere like Melbourne with dribs and drabs.

After a very warm and dry December (by our standards) January was bitterly disappointing. December was actually warmer than January!

We missed out on the exciting weather seen elsewhere in the country. The upper North Island was affected by the remnants of tropical cyclones with some areas receiving well over 200 mm of rain in one day!

Temperature wise it was right on the average although the nights were a little milder.

We had twice our average rainfall which kept our sunshine hours down.

LOL, I probably wouldn't enjoy that at all! That's a 44 C heat index. Is Mildura often that humid? I imagined it being fairly dry.

You problem is your house. I wasn't cold indoors when we lived in Invercargill, and it didn't cost a fortune to heat it.
