Huge March Snowstorm for Virginia area and New England and possible NY State as well. Chicago finally got a snowstorm.

TWC said based on new model runs having the rain/snow line south of DC, they have upted the totals there to 8-12 in Washington D.C.

3-6 inches of heavy, wet snow predicted for Boone, NC. 6-8 inches closer to the Tennessee border. Gusts up to 45 MPH. Should be a fun day.

This winter has been quite a difference from the non-winter we had last season.

Same here. If we get this storm, snowfall here will be above average for the season. Last year we barely mustered a flurry in February let alone accumulating snow in March.

So far we have had 6.4 in of measured snowfall. Even with 3-5, we will still be well below the 22" average snowfall per winter season. I'm very happy about it. I hope this happens every year.

Btw, you may be somewhat close in distance to Philly, but your climate seems quite a bit different than S. Jersey and the Philly area. I'm happy about that too.

Quite the cold spell on the way here to remind us that winter is nowhere near over. I wonder if this March could end up colder than December or January? By the end it may well do.

We better get a summer that's hottest on record then.

I'll post here too..

The transfer has been made. Now off Virginia Beach.

The apparent rotation with the system is fascinating being we dont see the counter clockwise spin usually north of Del Marva. It's a large system..and slow!

Winds at 5000' are now over 55mph from Virginia Beach to Atlantic City to DC. Gusting to 35mph at the surface there.

Watch those winds tonight/tomorrow.

We're currently under a winter storm warning. NWS Blacksburg doesn't issue those very often, especially for the mountain region. But with winds gusting up to 60 MPH, and the new accumulation range at 4-8 inches (both of which are changes from last night's forecast), I suppose it's needed.

Appalachian State has cancelled all classes before 11 AM (10 AM is the usual standard for cancelling morning classes), while the Watauga County School System is having its 13th snow day of the year (compared to a paltry 5 last year).
