Northernmost: Thingvellir in Iceland (64.15N) January - Obviously very short days. Bitterly cold winds. One day (the day I visited Thingvellir from Reykjavik) the temperature managed to reach 9 or 10C, yet still felt bitterly cold because of the wind. Didn't see the Aurora Borealis, because there was full cloud cover each night.

Southermost: Cape Otway, Australia (38.50S) December - Windy and cool

Closest to the Equator: Bangkok, Thailand (13.43N) November - Hot and humid. Enjoyed one intense tropical downpour, even though it was out of season.

The Aurora is not something that happens every night, at least not at 64N. Knowing how cloudy Iceland is, I think there's a very small chance to see it.

It's a common misconception that the Auroras are an everyday phenomenon in high latitudes. Near the poles yes, but decreases rapidly with latitude. At 70N you could technically see auroras 50-75% of nights during winter if there wouldn't be any cloud cover or moon illumination. Come down to 60N, and the possible percentage drops to 3%.

I haven't seen auroras in 10 years maybe.
