I enjoyed the heat spell.

Because I live near the coast I think we topped out somewhere between 38-39 C,
about 2 C cooler than Williamtown Airport.
It was still 36 C at sunset though, cooling to 35 C by the time it got dark.

Very dry here as well, dewpoints below 10 C.
Heat itself in the shade, nothing extreme about it.
The low humidity coupled with the strong winds made it extremely-drying though.
Temp in the sun? Not quite extreme for me in the open, but definitely inside a car.
I actually had a nap in the sun for a few minutes while it was 37 C.

Pity. If they have to pick an official time I would prefer 7am before morning sun heat starts to have much influence.

It's 9am - 9am here, too, I presume it's because Met Office staff do not want to have to go out at midnight all the time.

Hahahahaha.

Upon a close look at that data,
I noticed most 3pm relative humidity records are in the single-digit %'s.
With that weather, a sweating face would provide valuable moisture to keep my throat from drying too much.
I find dewpoints below 4 C a bit harsh in dry heat.

There was a nice storm here last night, with lots of lightning and thunder that lasted over an hour. There wasn't heaps of rain, about 8mm at the airport and about 15mm at my house, but that was much better than my expectations so I am quite happy. A good chance of storms today as well.

^^

You need to move north mate.

Since mid-December I have almost forgotten what temperatures under 20 C outdoors feel like.
Too many weeks go by here where all you see are afternoon highs between 25-35 C, repeated.

What frustrates me is that Melbourne has a real knack for missing out heat that is affecting the inland (e.g. the Murray River region, inland Victoria, SW NSW, Adelaide and Sydney's western suburbs). This situation is repeated ad nauseam every single summer.

And ofcourse, there sure as hell hasn't been any thunderstorms to speak of for weeks. This season has got to be one of the worst for storms in history.

What's funny is the even the inland NE and SE suburbs can be a fair bit hotter than the city. I live about 20km inland in the SE suburbs, it's been pretty warm here. On Tuesday, the inland eastern suburbs actually hit 37-39C while the city barely scratched 30C.

There were some amazing storms across the Darling Downs last night. I was treated to a lightning display that lasted for more than three hours, and during the best part of it, there was 2-3 flashes of lightning every second. The thunder was constant as well. The only complaint I have is that there was only about 5mm of rain, because the storm cells that were moving towards me split and changed direction.

Yesterday the town of Roma, a few hundred kilometres west of here, reached 44.6C/112F, a new record for them. Despite only 12-15% humidity in the afternoon storms still developed in that area. Brisbane had a very warm night last night, with a minimum of 25.8C/78.5F.
