It's official. Cape St. James at 52°N didn't get a single frost all winter. It's low from October to April was only 33°F (0.4°C) back in December. Impressive for a Canadian climate

Wow. Goes to show the west coast of North America can compare favorably with Europe. What type of vegetation does it support. I suppose it doesn't have much of a seasonal cycle, though with the cool winters plant growth would still be rather feeble. Here are the averages:

Station Results | Canada's National Climate Archive

This year was unusual, on average it gets 14 days with temperatures below or at freezing (air frost). Judging by the precipitation days, the sunshine must be horrible. 2/3rd of the time the sky cover is mostly cloudy (8/10th + covered). Here's a photo when the sun was out:

Since October 2012 there have been exactly 80 air frosts here, about 30 above average.

That part of Canada was where the Ridge was more sustained. Pattern didnt favor frost this time. Move Eastwards and different story. but still impressive given the latitude its at of 51°56'00.000" N. Just like the U.S in winter. When one side is warm, the other is not.

I'm curious to pull some 500mb mean maps for Canada now

Where do you get those stats at? I have no idea how many we've had but its probably similar because back in January we had like 55.

I think the average here is about 45 or 50.

My personal weather station and the one at the Harpur Hill site. My weather station actually over-reads night time temperatures so there have probably been more than that anyway.

With an average of 50 frosts here I sincerely doubt it is comparable.

The last frost date there is like middle of March it is May here.

What is your weather station? I have a Oregon scientific 200 or something and I got the disk but It won't work in a Mac, I try and put my data on the disk and it won't work. Its all messed up so I didn't bother. Where are the stats for the met office stations?

Why are you choosing your location? It's obviously not one of the least frost-prone in NW Europe. while Cape St. James is in a tiny promontory surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, a great setup for few frosts. Some boost places like Cork for few frosts, suggests North America is incapable of low frosts at that latitude. But this station definitely does compare well, this year.
