Davis Vantage Pro 2

The metoffice site shows an average of 59 air frosts per year in Buxton, more than I thought.

Well I just counted Castlederg and they've had about 70 frosts this year.

Yea but the west coast of North America is much milder than here in the winter. So it is kinda daft to sit and compare them to here.

At the same latitude? Not at all. Why don't you check numbers before you post?

Here's Belfast:

Belfast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the same latitude:

Prince Rupert, British Columbia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Averages 88 air frosts.

============================================

Here's Plymouth, UK:

Plymouth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

at about the same latitude, Port Hardy (on Vancouver Island)

Station Results | Canada's National Climate Archive

56 air frosts on an average year.

My nearest station has an average of 51.9 air frosts, 0.6 in May and 0.1 in September (I've never recorded a September air frost).

I'm sure the Shetlands at 60N would get few frosts in winter also

In the case of California, I know because I had to scrape frost off my windshield one morning while I was there
Cumshewa Island at north of 53 degrees also had no frost last year.... Daily Data

You have to remember that last winter was extremely mild in my part of North America, and also that these weather stations are out on the Pacific ocean, so they are moderated year-round by consistent sea breezes.

0.4C is sufficient to record frosts, no? With 2, maybe 3ºC we already have light frosts in many locations here '-'

No it is not.

In my area we do not record a frost unless it is -0.0c. 2c is not a frost at all.
