We got only a dusting of snow overnight. There are clouds building to the west with snow or possibly a mix of rain and snow in the forecast. It's fairly breezy, although nothing like some of the European posters are experiencing, at 22 mph / 35 km/h.
Where are you that you are getting all this snow?
I'm really surprised at how early the winter begins in North Dakota and Winnipeg, because they are much further South. I know thats not really a determiner but at the same latitude in eastern North America winter will still not be here for a month. Funny winter has barely started in Scandinavia, so it's a big surprise to see it so cold in Fargo etc. Don't know what thats all about.

Are you up at 7,000 feet or something?
Yes, the valley floor is at about 6300' and I'm at just under 8000'. We had a few snows in September, but October has been very dry, warmer than normal and sunny. The total so far is only 28" and there are only 14" or so on the ground at 9000'. Below that, there's some in shaded areas, but not much. There's nothing below 7500'. Two years ago we had already had 175" by the second week in December. I don't see that happening this year.
Clear and calm. Speaking of snow, there's been about a metre over the last 3 days at about the 5000 ft level on the nearby mountains- that's spring for ya.
Well the storm was much stronger than most forecast models had predicted, in fact the NAVGEM model was a winner here.
The highest gust was reached at the island of Heligoland with 191 km/h (119 mph). Several coastal stations and even some further inland ones had recorded hurricane force winds. Top ten windgusts in Germany Source: Meteomedia.de @ Facebook.
Helgoland-Oberland (Heligoland): 191 km/h (119 mph)
Borkum Island: 191 km/ (119 mph)
Hörnum at Sylt Island: 182 km/h (113 mph)
List-Ellenbogen at Sylt Island: 181 km/h (112 mph)
St. Peter Ording: 172 km/h (107 mph)
Juist-Airport (Juist Island): 170 km/h (106 mph)
Kiel Lighthouse: 169 km/h (105 mph)
Glücksburg-Meierwik: 169 km/h (105 mph)
Strucklahnungshörn: 165 km/h (103 mph)
Amrum Island 163 km/h (101 mph)
As you can see many stations even topped 100 mph/160 km/h, so this was really quite heavy storm.
I'm still waiting for the official wind gust of my town, the station stopped reporting at 10 a.m. when the wind was calmer with a top gust of 69 km/h (43 mph).
Judging from the damage here, some trees haven fallen, thick branches lying on the streets, signs have been bent and thrown over, some tiles having come off buildings, the gusts could have been in the hurricane range as well or at least very close to it.

Interesting. I'd love to live somewhere with swift changes in temperature but also cold winters. I think it would have to be about 6,000 feet, but to be honest if my area was at 6,000 feet I would hate living here because it would be a polar ice cap climate.
