I think the east coast of the U.S. from Virginia to Massachusetts has a pretty good balance of 4 seasons - roughly 3 months each of fall, winter, spring and summer. Moreover, they are distinct seasons - with leaves changing colors in the fall, snow and ice in the winter, colorful blossoms in the spring and hot and humid beach-like weather in the summer.

So, what other countries and places have a climate similar to this?

All of Western Europa (except Nordic countries), plus Chile, Argentina, northern Japan, Korea, parts of China and New Zealand... I think.

It would have to be a place with a regular snow cover for several months in winter, and significant precipitation all year round. I can only think of Japan and Korea and northeast China, as well as, Poland, Czech, Hungary, and countries to the east. Otherwise, it would not be similar to NE USA, although there are other places that might have four seasons.

Ukraine, although it's mostly drier.

Disagree. Western Europe is much wetter all year round and much more temperate. The summers are considerably hotter in the US northeast and drier. Winters are considerably colder with far more likelihood of snow. Western Europe is warned by the Gulf Stream.

The only country that is similar to strictly the east coast states (east of the Appalachian Mountains) is Japan, and Japan only. When you get west of the Appalachians, the climate becomes much more similar to the Korean Peninsula and China. The similarities with China stop at the Sierra Nevada mountains and west of the Sierra Nevada the climates become more similar to Europe (in particular to Spain, Portugal, and France)

Fabio, none of Europe is similar to the east coast USA. When it comes to climate, which side the ocean is in relation to you is very important and greatly influences the climate. In your country, the closest the climate is to the east coast US is Rio Grande do Sul to São Paulo (Miami or Key West)

I'll also add northeast Argentina is similar as well, and Uruguay.

Why northern Japan only? Tokyo has the same climate as Wilmington, NC. The southernmost point of Japan (not counting Okinawa) is the same to Charleston, SC. The only difference between the 4 cities is that it doesn't rain as much in NC and SC like it does in Japan. Northern Japan is only similar to New York State, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the New England states. Where I live is almost a carbon copy of Aomori Prefecture, minus the extreme snowfall
