Your 2012 photo looks typical from here around this date. Actually, I see forsythias more as a late March thing, though they continue to flower into April. I pity asthmatics from your area. Everything is going to bloom at the same time. Unless you get a lot of rain, this is probably going to be a severe tree pollen season.
Yup, Some are wondering why it hasn't been so bad lately. I told them to wait and get ready. We do have rain every 4-7 days recently and same moving forward but it's been windier and drier as well after the rains. So you bloom just a bit sooner then here. Interesting.

Normal? What's that? lol. Seems like we've been one extreme or the other recently.
I couldn't find one of same angle/view for other years. I think 2009 was a cold start as well so that year we were a bit late too. 2010 was too warm to use.
At this time normally buds are larger, more widespread and opening but maybe a picture wouldn't do justice on it since it's hard to see. Kinda the in between of those 2 up there.
I think we should do some hiking to get a top view and save the photos for comparison in future years
It comes across that they need security because of crime.
TBH when I see the bars in Spain it really sends shivers through my spine.
