Well, it starts today according to our calendars, although real autumn is not until the 21st March, the Equinox. Still, today has an autumn feel about it, and for the next few days.
Very small diurnal ranges today, but minimums are still 20C and above - a summer minimum!
Rainfall was quite heavy and widespread about the Hunter and Central Coast of NSW yesterday to end summer, with rain continuing for today. March is often the wettest month in many NSW spots.

A chilly start to the season with a temperature of 3C this morning, and -2C at ground level. The temperature managed to struggle up to 21C/70F. Back up to a respectable 24C tomorrow

Even colder in other parts of the region., with Blenhiem getting down to 1C, and reports of visible frost in some areas.

No Autumn colour in the trees yet, apart from a few yellow tinges in Populars. Here are some photos showing conditions at present - the place should start to green up by the end of March, which is another aspect of "Autumn colour" that is overlooked.

We started the transition from summer to autumn since February 13 and we're still in this transition here. We don't have highs above 30ºC anymore but we didn't have lows below 10ºC yet. Low of 12,7ºC today.

I certainly notice a brief transitional period in the 2nd half of Feb as well, as early autumn becomes apparent.
Plus rainfall has been over 50mm over the week-end, rain guarantees cooler temps (below mid 20s) here as we are not the tropics.

Another hot day yesterday, 38C. Similar conditions forecast for today.

Here are some photos I took yesterday around my area:

The landscape after 4 months of virtually no rain

Huge Moreton Bay fig tree at the local school

Banana tree at the university

Perth skyline from Matilda Bay, Swan River

Black Swans and ducks on the river foreshore

Nice pics, add sunshine plus the sandy soil over there and it is a sunglasses shops dream.
Went though Perth in October last year, en route to Mauritius, and had forgotten how glary it was.
It is quite normal though to have negligible rain from December to March, whereas a nil rainfall (or single digit figures) month in the east has everyone talking.

A nasty little squall came through this afternoon, dropping the 3.00 pm temperature to a wintry 8C/46F. A brief light snowfall down to about 800m/2400ft. Back up to 18C/64F now at 4.42 pm.

Brutally cold today. Afternoon temps barely in the double digits with an icy cold southerly averaging well above 30 kph. 7 mm of rain too. I haven't had any time to acclimatise to such cold temps so it felt worse than most winter days to me. Next couple of days should be more of the same with some serious rain tomorrow.

Got to 30C today much to my absolute surprise. Was feeling hot at work, I was wondering WHY, and when I went to my car on my break the radio announcer said it was only 23C ..... my balls. The city only did only reach 25C due to seabreezes but out here in the suburbs away from the bay it was much warmer.
