Spring Hiking in Connecticut. This is in Litchfield County Mt Tom State Park.

Word of advice... don't drive an old compact car with bald tires to a snowy hiking spot on the hills. 1/4 way up I realized I wasn't going to make it so I stopped and walked further up to see if the road cleared a bit.... it didn't. The snow/ice pack got thicker.

So then the challenge became how do I get back down without sliding off! Tracks were pure ice.

I deflated the tires and literally went backwards 1mph with a little curve as well before getting to a safe spot.

Found a paved parking spot and I was off.

Follow the yellow marker. :-)

About a 10-12" snowpack on the hill 800' up.

I made it..

The view North facing Massachusetts.. March 17, 2014 27°F N Wind at 15mph..

Not sure if this is a precursor to what the summer will be like, but check out the amazing image from a dust storm in OK Panhandle

Interesting photo. I wouldn't want to have a Phoenix palm right outside my window. It's gonna be pretty dark in those rooms in a couple of years,.

The Flax is certainly an unusual choice for a front garden plant.

No Spring picnic at Mt Tom State Park yet. Litchfield, CT. March 27, 2014. 25° degrees, crystal blue skies from High Pressure overhead. Below normal and crisp morning.

Pond still frozen and the Deepest snow pack at about 700' was 7-9"!
Mostly just 2-4" though and very scattered.

Ironically as you head up the hill there was less snow.

Then got thicker as you kept going up.

Notice the mini valley here. South facing side on left. North facing side on right.

Melting and refreezing creates a Slippery slope.

Facing Massachusetts. Down below is the light scattered snowpack which is North Facing on Mt Tom. looking in the distance is south facing and probably why there's no snow.
