After drought and record breaing heat, rain mean mudslides on Mt. Shasta:

Rain on way, Mount Shasta region braces for mudflows (pics) - Tom Stienstra's Outdoors

In the past month, several glaciers have had melting and slippage, which has created water flow beneath the surface ice. On Saturday night, the Konwakiton Glacier fractured and launched a massive, stopped-up reservoir of water below into the Mud Creek Canyon. High, muddy flows then covered bridges, wiped out crossings and knocked over trees and pushed giant boulders downstream as the flood powered its way to the McCloud River.

Looks like we'll miss the bulk of it but I think coastal areas wil get some heavy rains in short period of time. You'll miss out on the heavier winds/rains with this one.

I remember a few times last winter it was snowing here and you were like "what snow?". lol

Could the pattern be favoring the same again?

Focusing back on this storm... Check out Euro max wind gusts. 30-40mph around Maryland&Delaware Wednesday night. Then to NYC metro Thursday afternoon.

As I post this graphic from Tim Buckley I should note there is no frost or freeze threats next 2 weeks for mid Atlantic or NorthEast...... Growing season continues. Maybe after Oct 10th we get cold again.

Next 8-10 days look mild eastern US

http://www.wsi.com/blog/energy/us-mo...o-the-tropics/

Almost no winds in the central US means that the warming will be very slow. Most steering winds for the next 8-10 days will be up in Canada.

If we take the forecast through the 30th ORD will end up with an average max of about 74.1F normal is 74.8F. MDW will probably end up with an average max of about 75.2F, which 75.2F is normal. I think the means will be justy shy of normal as well for the month.

The snow situation this morning:

The wind will turn to the SE, and Lapland is expected to get heavy snowfall this evening.

Helsinki Airport went down to -1.3C last night, so they didn't manage to get out of September without a freeze. We were very close as well, but 0.1C doesn't count. Helsinki Centre fell to 0.4C.

Yup, quick plummeting of temps. Synop report summary

But it should be over by Friday.

Saana fell had an ice day yesterday. -2.4C the high, -5.9C low. Ok, it's at 3300 ft, but still.

edit: Our average high is still at 18.7C/65.7F despite this blast of cold. I think it's pretty good for this place and latitude.

Look what the latest GFS decides to do around October 3rd. Strong ULL over southern Canada, 540 line digs south. Any precip on map above the 540 dashed blue line is snow and cold.

This lifts up and out but a trough stays in the East but the colder temps stay near Great Lakes and Northern New England. .

For the Northeast/MidAtlantic I don't see any frost or freeze threat until after around the 8th . So we got "at least" 2 more weeks without worrying about our plants could be longer.
