Always wondered that too but I guess it's when the balloon launches happen as well so to be uniform everyone does it at 12z. Imagine poor folks in the West or Alaska or Hawaii needing to do the 12z stuff.

Wow I can't imagine experiencing such warmth this time of the year. Looks like it's going to remain way above average in Goodland, Kansas...average high this time of year is around 45 F/7 C, but there's no highs below 56 F/13 C (most days at or above 60 F/16 C). National Weather Service

It's hard to believe there's mild weather so close by since this February has been so cold. Other cold winters much of the country (midwest and southeast) were cold, too. I wonder if there could be a very drastic shift in average temperatures around the end of the month. I'd rather have a chilly February and a warm March than the reverse. I hated last March.

Wow, what a slap in the face. At least it's a sign of what's to come, eventually.

As I thought, the forecasts for my area have gone up since last night. Now TWC and WU are showing daytime temps around 19F and lows around 2F on Fri. NWS is showing 14/2F. Last night WU was showing 13/-4F, with NWS at 14/0F.

I expect the actual temps on Friday to be even warmer, i.e, the forecasts will probably go up another 5+ degrees F (just a wild guess). I don't dispute the models, I just doubt that this thing will be as historic as originally forecast (similar to the Jan snowstorm here). And to think, I was getting excited over this

Wow, what a telling map. Where the snowpack ends, that's where the temperatures surge upwards rapidly as you travel south. About 5 miles north of Philly in a line going west-south-westward.

Also, as of 2pm, 70 degrees in Norfolk Va
