Either one is good but I'd give the nod to Hastings for the more comfortable summer temperatures. My cousin lives in Portland though and she loves it, and I'm sure I'd be fairly happy with the climate there too.

Winter is the same in each place, and in summer the low temps are very close. The sunshine and high temps in summer make the difference for me. Portland.

Hastings is alright too but definitely Portland for me, close to my ideal climate.

Portland for me -sunnier and warmer.

I posted stats for another for another Hastings just two days ago, and eagerly awaited a reply - I checked the thread every two minutes, but alas, there were no replies. Hastings, New Zealand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Portland is better, though Hastings is better in the winter as it doesn't get as cold as Portland, and is MUCH drier.

Portland for being overly sunnier & drier in the summer.

Hastings has more pleasant summer temps and the sunshine is decent in that season. If only it had thunder I would've preferred its summers. I hate 18C cool rainy days in the summer - Something that Hastings would probably experience on regular occasions.

Portland is only drier in summer. Overall, Hastings is drier and has fewer rainy days.
