It's coming. Models pretty consistently showing the turn around after mid next week. Question is.... will there be snow too!
I don't need a long duration snow pack but I do need a couple more snowstorms and some deep core cold stuff to get my batteries recharged for summer! Come on baby! Lets make up for lost time from Chicago down to Florida up to Maine!
Question also is, is it too late for this to be happening? Rapid warm up at the Stratosphere levels. Coming off record cold values which is why we really haven't seen any extreme cold around at the surface,.
Current 850mb temps. Whats happening in Asia? WOW.
Whenever you see whites and blues around south of about Latitude 50°N, you know it's pretty darn cold and near record levels also snow somewhere in the region.
Not much coverage in Canada which is why I have my doubts about the upcoming February cold in the U.S. Won't be extreme. You can see the Polar Vortex's split here. (coldest cores)
So George, as FlaminGalah pointed out to you over and over, what happened to the vortex and cold over Europe. The graphics above show nothing for them but warmth, and we get the cold yet again. I told you the vortex is untouchable in Europe. Figures.
Canadian from last night on top.. yesterday on bottom. Significant shift south with the storm track. Puts Chicago within the half foot mark now.
Why does it always have to be so nail biting!
Hope the trend continues to shift a little further south!

Why on earth do you believe that Europe doesn't get cold waves? That's completely idiotic. In fact, a good deal of Northern and Eastern Europe was in a significant cold wave for several weeks this winter. Western Europe is going to have more of an oceanic influence. A notable cold outbreak for Europe was December 2010. Actually record breaking cold for western Europe and the UK.
No surprise there, but that doesn't mean that they can't see cold or heat either from time to time.
Current thinking for the middle of February
And thank the gods on Mt Olympus that I will get to see at least a good blast of cold (and hopefully snow), before we exit this lame ass poor excuse of a winter.
