Good question. If the words in question ultimately go back to Proto-Indo-European, yes, somewhat. Likewise, I'd say words that came to English from French but were ultimately of Germanic origin are not the same as those that came from Latin (as French words).
I think I'd be fun if I met snj90 in person to have a political / cultural debate with both of us drunk. Only allowable venue would be a hipster bar in NYC, and snj90 would need to wear some piece of clothing with a confederate flag on it and I'd wear a cap saying "make America great again"

My metabolism must be sky-high right now. Listening to heavy metal, with my shirt off, and I'm blasting the window air conditioner: 66 F / 19 C. But I still feel slightly warm. Must be still have some booze in my blood.
